The Meadowbrook master planning process was initiated in early 2012 in response to the centre's recognition within the South East Queensland Regional Plan 2009-2031 as a future specialist centre focussed on health, research and education.
The master planning process is being carried out by Logan City Council as a separate process in parallel with the Queensland Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning MEDS process.
The MEDS will be used as a strategic tool to guide growth and future development within Meadowbrook in line with its envisaged role as a specialist health centre. It will provide high level strategic direction and a governance framework to tie together the different planning activities of the key stakeholders within Meadowbrook. This included Logan City Council (LCC), Logan Hospital, Griffith University, Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT) and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR).
Individual institutional processes took place throughout the MEDS process and these plans and policies are given due consideration in the development of the final MEDS.
