West Moreton Hospital and Health Service

Destravis was engaged by West Moreton Hospital and Health Service (WMHHS) to undertake strategic planning for future service delivery in the West where demand on services is forecast to grow.

The Western Facilities Master Plan identifies a preferred configuration of facilities to support the future service needs of the catchment population.

The objectives of the master plan included:

• Address critical risk at Laidley and Esk through the replacement of inadequate buildings
• Provide a new facility in the Lockyer Valley area to address growth and consolidate services.

The proposed master plan solutions were reviewed through workshops specific to rural sites, workshops to review community hubs and specific consultation meeting with the engineering team. The Executive team and the HHS Board were also consulted.

Through the process the master plan for the various sites achieved:

• A solution that addresses critical facilities at Esk and Laidley, coordinated with future services consolidated in the Lockyer Valley
• Improvements to Gatton Hospital
• A new facility in the Lockyer Valley to consolidate services and respond to population growth
• Gradual replacement of Boonah Hospital.

All four sites will have the community hub component enabled through provisions of telehealth, spaces supporting outreach services and multipurpose rooms keeping the facilities flexible to the specific needs of each community.

The next steps will be the development of a combined Preliminary and Detailed Business Case for the replacement of Esk and Laidley hospitals. The Business Case is expected to be completed in 2018.
