Ipswich Hospital

Ipswich Hospital is a major acute hospital with 341 beds 40 kilometres west of Brisbane. The Hospital offers all major health specialities including anaesthetics, emergency medicine, medicine, surgery, intensive and cardiac care, orthopaedics, obstetrics, paediatrics, palliative care and rehabilitation, along with a full range of allied health services.

Over the course of the 15 year planning horizon population growth within the WMHHS is forecast to be 209,693 people, an increase on 2012 population of 82%. This growth has been recognised as the fastest growing region in Queensland.

Destravis conducted a Capital Infrastructure Planning Study (CIPS) informed by health service planning and service delivery models to assess the suitability of existing capital infrastructure at Ipswich Hospital to support these high future health service requirements.

The CIPS was been commissioned in parallel with the development of a Strategic Business Case which explores strategic options which will allow for the development of a new hospital at Springfield and transition of Ipswich Hospital into a tertiary hub.

The infrastructure response to population growth and its demands on health services, changing models of care and increased inpatient and ambulatory bed requirements has been reflected in options developed for the short, medium and long terms.

The planning process explored alternative means of service delivery, in particular, opportunities where private sector involvement and partnerships can be utilised to meet the unprecedented growth in demand.
