MBHR was a brownfield redevelopment of a regional teaching hospital expanding to 319 beds with increased service capability, including all infrastructure and support services.
The Master Plan redesign developed a three staged Master Plan with sub-stages that allowed a quantum of work to be brought forward enabling earlier completion of acute and inpatient facilities. This minimised the impact of disruption and continuum of service delivery.
The quality of the site offered excellent opportunities to create a facility that is patient-focused and adopts evidence based models of care. The Hospital, which will become a landmark for Mackay, will further integrate the community through an appropriate approach to urban design, promoting a sense of care and community inclusion.
